LIFE Born in Bethsaida, Palestine. Disciple of St. John the Baptist, then called by Jesus to be an Apostle. Present at the miracle of the loaves and fishes. Approached by the Hellenistic Jews from Bethsaida to introduce them to Jesus. Asked Jesus to show us the Father, to which Jesus replied, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” John 14:9 NRSV. Martyred circa 80 in Hierapolis, Phrygia.
SYMBOLS St. Philip holds a cross, which represents his martyrdom by crucifixion. The book in St. Philip’s other hand signifies the Gospel he taught while preaching in Greece, Syria, and Phrygia.
