LIFE    Also called Didymus, the Twin, Apostle of India, or Doubting Thomas. Often remembered for doubting Jesus’ resurrection until permitted to touch the Lord’s wounds. Reluctant to start his mission until forced into slavery and transported to his destined region. Upon yielding to divine will, was freed and began building the new Church. Constructed numerous churches throughout  Parthia, Persia, and India. Martyred by spear circa 72 in India.

SYMBOLS    St. Thomas holds a carpenter’s square which represents his building of many churches.

PATRONAGE    architects, builders, geometricians, masons, stonecutters, surveyors, theologians, blind people, doubters, East Indies, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka

SCRIPTURE  TO  PONDER    Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”  John 14:5-6 NRSV
